Bird use of shrubby draws during fall migration.

In 2012, the MPG Ranch began major efforts to restore ground cover and woody structure in several draws on the property.

We sampled for birds in portions of Tongue Creek and Sheep Camp once a week from August 23rd until October 22.

We recorded observations of 1,061 birds during the sampling period.

Bird species detected in surveys of shrubby draws on the MPG Ranch 8/23/12-10/22/12

This figure shows temporal patterns of bird use of the draws.

These figures show spatial and temporal patterns of draw use by six species.

Birds used this section of Upper Sheep Camp heavily throughout fall migration.

season. This section of Lower Sheep Camp, with its heavily eroded slopes and lack of vegetative cover, received relatively little use by birds during fall migration.

Shrub and tree species most commonly used by birds during fall migration.

We will assess features of different sections of the draws to make quantitative associations.
