In June, we drill seeded a strip of forbs and grasses across North Cheat to evaluate the efficacy of late spring seeding. Late spring rows are visible (red arrows).

Jess Kindred measured seeded grass and forb presence within 20 one yardlong points for each season of seeding. The chart shows plants per yard from fall, early spring and late spring seedings. Error bars are standard deviation.

Indian ricegrass, wheat, and slender wheatgrass drilled in the fall go to seed this year and establish a seedbank for future seasons.

Sunflower and sainfoin successfully establish after late spring seeding and provide cover crop.
