 Phenology locations

Horseweed exhibits bare receptacles as buds continue to flower in the background (Conyza canadensis, Center Pivot).

Vibrant fall colors dress up mountain shrubs for the last week of September.

Golden pennies hang from the branches of quaking aspen, painting the Bitterroot floodplain in brilliant hues (Populus tremuloides).

Sagebrush buttercup makes its annual autumnal re-emergence (Ranunculus glaberrimus, Floodplain).

Snow white snowberries will help feed wintering songbirds over the cold months (Symphoricarpos albus, Whaley).

A population of cutleaf daisy in the floodplain typically experiences a secondary flowering stage in the fall, but I don’t notice this behavior in other local populations (Erigeron compositus).

Ruby red rose hips brighten the understory. These fruits are high in vitamin C content and are often collected, dried, and used in teas (Rosa woodsii, Floodplain).
