Lazuli Bunting Gynandromorph

We caught an unusual Lazuli Bunting on the northern floodplain on Monday, June 14th. At first glance, we thought this bird was a male Lazuli Bunting with some aberrant feathers. You can see in this photo that the feathers on the left side of the bird’s face are not blue like we expect on an adult male Lazuli Bunting. In fact, some of the feathers look like those of a female Lazuli Bunting.
